The London Review of Books and the Department of English at UCL have together instituted an annual event to commemorate Kermode's distinguished life and highly influential work. The inaugural discussion, which took place between Jacqueline Rose, Michael Wood, and Stephen Fender and which was chaired by John Mullan, ranged freely and informally across his contributions to criticism in numerous fields, from apocalyptic theory to contemporary fiction.
